5. Sarah Brown: the enjoyment of the process

✍️What does life drawing do for your art practice?

I started joining Life Drawing Bangor's sessions at the beginning of 2021, and I am really glad that I did! I have always enjoyed drawing and painting, but have found it hard to make time to regularly do these between work and other everyday tasks. Having a class to attend at a set time has helped me to regularly commit time to drawing and doing something I enjoy. Previously at times I have focused on the end product of a piece of work, but attending life drawing has reintroduced me to enjoying the process, rather than worrying too much on the final outcome. I have surprised myself at what I've been able to produce in short periods of time and been inspired by the work of others at the classes. For me, two of the most valuable things about life drawing are 1) having a place to take a break from work and rushing around while doing something I love, 2) learning that you don't always need hours of time to make progress with drawing skills or produce art, but regular practice even for a short period of time is a good and enjoyable approach!

✍️What is your experience of Life Drawing Bangor's sessions ?

I would recommend Life Drawing Bangor to anyone thinking of giving it a try! They are a really friendly and encouraging group, with a mixture of styles and approaches to Life Drawing. It is great to see how each person produces something unique when drawing from the same model during the classes. I have enjoyed seeing other's work and chatting with others in the group (about music, local shops and events, art supplies, movies...). To anyone hesitating about joining a class (I've heard phrases 'I can't draw, I wouldn't be good enough') I would say there's no right or wrong way to draw/ paint, and Life Drawing Bangor is a friendly and relaxed space to practice, improve and enjoy it!
